4.19. Pistons and rods - survey

18.1 For removal of piston rings use the special tool

1. Accurately remove rings from pistons (18.1), trying not to scratch pistons.

18:2á Flutes of the piston can be cleared by means of the special tool

18:2í... or ring fragment

2. Remove deposit traces from a piston head. Clear flutes for piston rings (18.2a and 18.2b).
3. After removal of a deposit and deposits clear pistons and rods solvent and dry up them.
4. Examine pistons on existence of cracks on a piston skirt, around a piston finger and flutes for piston rings.
5. Examine the piston on existence of scratches, corrosion or the burned-through areas.

18.6 Check a side gap of a ring in several places by means of a set of probes

6. Measure a side gap of piston rings in several points (18.6).

18.7 Measure diameter of the piston perpendicular to a piston finger and parallel to it

7. Define a gap between the piston and walls of the cylinder, having subtracted diameter of the cylinder from diameter of the piston. Measure diameter of the piston of the piston 2 mm higher than the lower edge perpendicular to a piston finger and parallel to it (18.7). If the gap is too big,
8. Check a gap between the piston and a rod, having inclined the piston on a rod. If excessively free wheeling is felt, address experts for boring of the piston and a rod and installation of a new piston finger.
9. If the piston needs to be removed from a rod, address experts.
10. Examine rods on existence of cracks or other damages. Uncover rods, clear them and examine on existence of scratches. Replace inserts of bearings and establish covers into place.
