3.10. Camshafts - removal, check and installation

Removal
1. Install the N1 piston in the top dead point.
2. Disconnect a wire from the minus plug of the accumulator
3. Uncover valves
4. Remove the ignition distributor (for SOHC engines) or the sensor of an angle of rotation of a bent shaft (DOHC engines).
SOHC engines
5. Merge a cooler from the cooling system and the top hose of a radiator from the thermostat.
6. Remove the fuel pump.
7. Take off a gas-distributing belt and an asterisk(s) of the camshaft(s)

9.8 Accurately take an epiploon, trying not to scratch metal surfaces (1,5 l)


8. Wrap up an insulating tape a screw-driver tip. Accurately take a camshaft epiploon from a groove by means of the screw-driver (9.8).
9. Remove an axis of yokes together with yokes.

9.10 In the 1,5 l engines unscrew the lower bolts (A) and remove an arm, then unscrew the top bolts (V) and a bolt of a persistent ring (C)


10. In the 1,5 l engines, remove a back cover of a head of cylinders and unscrew bolts of a persistent ring of the camshaft (9.10).

9.11 Clamp the camshaft between the third and fourth cams in the 1,5 l engines and unscrew a bolt of a persistent ring of a shaft


11. Stop the camshaft and unscrew a bolt of a persistent cover of the camshaft (9.11).

9.12 In the 1,5 l engines take a persistent ring from a head of cylinders.


12. Get an emphasis from the block of cylinders (9.12).

9.13 Get the camshaft from a head of cylinders


13. For the best access unscrew a tank of windscreen washers and remove it aside. Get the camshaft from a head of cylinders (9.13).
DOHC engines

9.14 Camshafts of DOHC engines

1. Covers of bearings
2. Camshaft
3. Yokes
4. Elevators of yokes
5.  Camshaft epiploon
6. Camshaft asterisk


14.   Uncover  camshaft bearings. Accurately get camshafts from the block of cylinders (9.14).
Check
15. Carefully clean camshafts, a back cover and surfaces on which laying is established.
16. Examine camshafts, a gear wheel of the drive and a surface of cams on existence of wear and damages. Examine the surfaces of bearings on existence of damages.

9.17 Measure height of cams


17. Measure height of cams (9.17) and compare them to data of technical characteristics.

9.19 Measure diameters of bearings


18. Measure diameters of bearings (9.19), and then measure internal diameters of inserts of bearings in a head of cylinders. Take away diameter of the bearing from diameter of an insert, and you receive the size of a lubricant gap. Compare the received size to the size given in Technical characteristics.
19. Replace the camshaft if it does not undergo one of the above-stated checks. If cams are worn-out, replace the camshaft together with yokes. If inserts of bearings, perhaps are damaged or worn-out, it is necessary to make replacement of a head of cylinders.

9.20 By means of the probe measure an axial side play (the 1,5 l engines)


20. In the 1,5 l engines install a persistent ring on the camshaft and tighten a bolt. Check an axial gap of a shaft (9.20).
21. If an axial gap too big, check on how many other end of a shaft is worn-out. If wear too strong replace a shaft.
Installation
23. Slightly oil bearings and inserts of a shaft engine.
24. Carefully establish a shaft in a head of cylinders.
25. Install a persistent ring in SOHC engines. Fix a persistent ring by a bolt. Establish a back cover with new laying and tighten bolts till the required inhaling moment.
26. Install covers of bearings of a shaft in DOHC engines. Tighten bolts of covers till the necessary moment of an inhaling.

9.27 Establish an epiploon (the 1.5 l engines)


27. Oil a shaft epiploon engine and establish it to the place of (9.27).
28. Establish asterisks of camshafts and tighten bolts till the required inhaling moments.
29. Establish a gas-distributing belt.
30. Install axes of yokes and a yoke in SOHC engines.
31. Adjust gaps of valves.
32. Establish the remained details.
33. Get and warm up the engine.
34. Carry out repeated adjustment of valves.
35. Establish a cover of valves and check the engine for existence of leak of oil.
